  • „When I stand on the highest cliff I look down into the deep valley and sing…“

Franz Schubert composed his last vocal work, "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen," when he was already bedridden. Only from his room did he dream of nature, love, natural sounds – yes, of infinite freedom... At 2000 meters above sea level, amidst the Valais mountains, the power of nature is unmistakable. Schubert's final work is interspersed with nature yodel songs, once again revealing how closely art song and folk song, home and nature, are intertwined.
