  • “But everything that touches us, you and me,
Takes us together like one draw of a bow
Which pulls one voice from two strings.
On which instrument are we strung?
And what player has us in his hand?
    O sweet song.”

Rainer Maria Rilke's reflections on love, life, and death have inspired an entire century up to contemporary music, giving rise to highly emotional and brilliant musical works: Few poets have left such a visible mark in music, with around 1000 settings by composers like Alban Berg, Leonard Bernstein, Samuel Barber, and contemporary composers such as Aribert Reimann. Soprano FRANZISKA HEINZEN and pianist BENJAMIN MEAD invite you on a poetic-musical journey of discovery.

The concert was recorded by Swiss Radio SRF 2 for the program "Im Konzertsaal". Similarly, the recital was broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
